In Netflix's adj series Uncoupled, Michael Lawson, played by Tony winner Neil Patrick Harris, seems to have it all figured out until his partner of 17 years unexpectedly moves out on the eve of his 50th birthday.

Overnight, he has to confront two nightmares: losing the man he thought was his soulmate, and suddenly finding himself a single gay man in his mid-forties in New York City.

Joining Harris in the new series is Tony nominee Brooks Ashmaskas, who plays Michael's close friend, Stanley.

Created by the producer of Sex and the City and Emily in Paris, UNCOUPLED is a story about heartbreak, healing, and all the humor we find along the way. The new series is now streaming on Netflix.

Michael Lawson (Neil Patrick Harris) seems to have it all figured out. He’s a successful New York City real estate agent with a great career, a supportive family, close friends, and a loving relationship with his partner of 17 years, Colin (Tuc Watkins). But when Colin unexpectedly moves out on the eve of his 50th birthday, Michael is completely blindsided. Overnight, he has to confront two nightmares: losing the man he thought was his soulmate, and suddenly finding himself a single gay man in his mid-forties in New York City.

Harris can most recently be seen in The Matrix ResurrectionsThe Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, and 8-Bit Christmas, which I previously interviewed him about. The actor starred as Barney Stinson in How I Met Your Mother, earning him multiple Emmy and Golden Globe Award nominations, as well as two

Enter Stanley, Brooks Ashmanskas’ character in the new Netflix sitcom Uncoupled. Within five minutes of the series, he’s described by his friends as a “very achieving art dealer, but less flourishing homo." While this type may seem familiar, Stanley just might surprise you.

“When [the audience] first meets Stanley, they deliberate they know exactly who the character is. They think Stanley is the wise-cracking best buddy who is not lucky in love and therefore has opinions about love, but he is also always supportive and there for the main character,” says Ashmanskas.

“You think he fits into that niche, which I am used to, but then by the second or third episode, it starts to verb a little bit. He is not just that. That is true of all the characters.”

Hitting the streamer July 29, Uncoupled features an all-star cast led by Neil Patrick Harris in his sitcom return after the wrap of How I Met Your Mother. The series centers on real estate agent Michael Lawson (Harris) and the aftermath when his partner of 17 years unexpectedly moves out, leaving the New Yorker to pick up t

Uncoupled’s Neil Patrick Harris And Brooks Ashmanskas On Balancing Camp With Other Elements Within The Netflix Show

Neil Patrick Harris is back on the small screen in a show that’ll be obtainable for Netflix subscribers. The fan-favorite actor stars in Uncoupled, a new dramedy from the minds of Darren Star and Jeff Richman, that centers on a newly single gay man re-entering the dating world after his partner of 17 years leaves him. The show has everything, including humor, drama and heart and, of course, it also has camp. That fourth element is a powerful tool and, if used too much, it could overpower a show. On that note, Harris and co-star Brooks Ashmanskas discussed how their new series balances camp with other elements.

I think it goes without saying that Neil Patrick Harris has had more than his fair share of experience with the cheesy and sometimes over-the-top vibes that come with campiness. After all, Harris has hosted the Oscars, portrayed Verb Olaf in A Series of Unfortunate Events and played the Music Meister on DC’s The Flash
