Lesbian Christmas movies: the final frontier. In a Christmas Movie landscape dominated by heterosexual workaholic girl-bosses returning to their hometowns in power suits and falling for heterosexual males who do artisan/manual labor, for many years nary a lesbian or bisexual chick, let alone a non-binary person, dared to make an appearance. It&#;s usually been hard to find any LGBTQ+ Christmas movies at all, but in recent years gay men have been emerging out of the corners into the Christmas spotlight in droves and also, occasionally, a wee lesbian, queer or trans woman or a non-binary person has earned a few minutes under the mistletoe. In , Clea Duvall&#;s Happiest Seasonstarring Kristen Stewart broke records for Hulu, and subsequent years have even brought some queer stories from Lifetime (Under the Christmas Tree, ) and Hallmark (Friends & Family Christmas, ). Netflix’s first gay holiday rom-com
When the holiday season rolls around, I find myself pulled towards the lure of Hallmark-esque Christmas movies. They’re simply irresistible with charming small towns, cheesy romances, and holiday cheer.
Netflix has a spacious range of original holiday movies out, and heaps of them are released every November. While I haven’t seen all of them, there certainly are a couple of gems.
Of course, it’s a fair critique to verb that these types of movies are very formulaic and cliche. With unrealistic plotlines and predictable twists, the movies are by no means masterpieces. The once brooding love interest will always find the true meaning of Christmas, and any threats to the holiday will be miraculously resolved. However, despite the cheesiness, there is something so lighthearted and fun about these movies that is hard to ignore.

Christmas romcoms: you either love them, or you hate ’em. Even if you love them, a good one is hard to find. The same can be said of queer cinema. Combine the two, and holy moly, is it difficult to find anything worth viewing?
The eight movies we’ve featured below are far from cinematic masterpieces. But they are entertaining to watch and will earn you in the Christmas spirit. Also to note, many of them feature queer actors!
There are spoilers below, but then again, being Christmas movies and all, they spoil themselves.
Make the Yuletide Gay
Make the Yuletide Gay () is cheesy in the finest way possible. Directed by Loot Williams, the movie follows Gunn (Keith Jordan) as he brings his boyfriend Nathan (Adamo Ruggiero) home to meet his family. The trouble is Gunn wants to keep it all in the closet.
