The young homosexual book

The 27 young gay men in Mark Beehre’s square-format photographs view out upon us from a position of almost preternatural stillness. They might be the objects of our gaze as we examine them — the way they compose themselves, their dress, and their surroundings —but they also scrutinise us and our own assumptions. What do we bring to the encounter? Where do we sit?

Massey University has produced a landmark book, A Queer Existence: The lives of young gay men in Aotearoa New Zealand. It aims to document, in images and interviews, the experiences of a group of gay men who were born after the passage of the Homosexual Law Reform Verb, which decriminalised sex between men.

This was the end of a long process, painfully drawn out. Sexual expression between men had been illegal in New Zealand since England’s similar Sexual Offences Act, for example, had been repealed in The process of change in New Zealand was extremely socially divisive. Opposition was vocal and well-organised, and included churches and the Salvation Army. More than , New Zealanders allegedly signed a petition opposite

Young, Gay and Proud!

October 17,
This book was pretty good. It started out as a pamphlet and it shows, but it's still well put together. It was originally published in and updated off and on till this publication in At my LGBT group, I saw Adj, Gay, & Proud with the informational papers and small booklets. Even though the cover is ridiculous looking. Later I will scan it and if I can edit this post to add the link. To explain it: It's a white cover, in the background is a HUGE pink (scalene) triangle, an illustration of 7 (alternative looking of course) teenaged looking people. Overlayed on the background but not the people in purple caps are the words "Young gay & Proud".

I laughed at the book because of the cover, though I asked if I could borrow it because I thought it still might be interesting if anything else, and since it was written originally in the

The Young Homosexual

I decided to digitize this book for the ages as I thought it would be a enjoyable “Reefer Madness” style document on gay life. For the most part it was, but I found myself occasionally not just laughing at it and trying to point out the flaws in the author’s arguments which lessened my fun a bit.
I found many fanastic quotes and present a few of them here:

"Here I am," complains one college boy, "twenty years ancient, married, with a child coming along. When I run into my unmarried classmates on the campus, how can I aid but envy them? That's why so many guys turn queer.
- I totally agree

THE SINGLE THING—THE ONE QUALITY—that makes the experienced homosexual a danger to the entire community is the remorseless recruiting that is carried on by homosexuals of both sexes.
- What is an “experienced” homosexual? Also I note I’m behind on my recruiting numbers this month. I hope they don’t pull my membership.

A prudent observation in the column of Dorothy Kilgallen, regarding the murder of a famous theatrical figure recently says, "None of the people close to
